The registrations for the 3rd Chios Hardstone Trail are now open!
The 3rd Chios Hardstone Trail, an annual mountain race held in Chios, will take place in Karyes on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, 2023. The race is organized by the Chios Health Athletes Association "Chiosrunning" in collaboration with the Municipality of Chios, the Chios Regional Unit, and the Legal Entity of Public Law (ΝΠΔΔ) of the Municipality of Chios.The event features a challenging new route and an additional race day. The starting and finishing point is in Karyes, which is located 6 km from the city center. It includes the mountain trails of 23 km, 12 km, and 5 km, which were also part of the previous edition, as well as a new, longer route for mountain enthusiasts, covering a distance of 41 km.
The race was inspired by a group of trail running enthusiasts who participated in a mountain race in Rhodope in 2019. This experience led them to search for old shepherd paths in the foothills of Mount Piganios in Karyes, Chios. The paths had been covered by stones, hiding stories that were long forgotten. By clearing the paths and putting in a lot of hard work, they brought back to life a network of 40 kilometers of trails accessible to nature and mountain sports lovers, creating the Chios Hardstone Trail.

The race schedule is as follows:
Saturday, April 29, 2023:
- 5 km race with an elevation gain of 227 meters, starting at 17:00
- 12 km race with an elevation gain of 670 meters, starting at 17:00
Sunday, April 30, 2023:
- 23 km race with an elevation gain of 1200 meters (HARTA Series 2023 Championship), starting at 07:30
- 41 km race with an elevation gain of 2290 meters (HARTA Series 2023 Championship), starting at 07:30
The Pasta Party will be held on Saturday, April 29, after the completion of the 5 km and 12 km races.
Additionally, after the 23 km and 41 km races, there will be a generous serving of salads, souvlaki, and excellent local beer for the participants.
Awards
Prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women in each race category.
Time limits
Time limits for the 23 km and 41 km races. To be considered a valid finisher, participants must complete the 23 km race within 5 hours and the 41 km race within 9 hours.
